Today was our first of two guest events for September. While any rehearsal is a good time to come check us out, guest events mean we don’t take anything for granted and take time to explain a few things about what and how we sing. These events are great for members, too! They remind us of all the things we technically know, but maybe don’t think about very often. Why are the various parts arranged this way on the risers? Who gets the melody in barbershop? What’s “forward” sound? Where are my resonators, and what are they for? What in the name of everything holy is a diphthong, and why should I turn it??? Guests join us on the risers for warmups and singing games, and as much of our regular rehearsal as they want to try. And then we perform a couple of numbers, to show the payoff for all of the practice, practice, practice.
The best part of guest night for chorus members? Finding new people to sing with! If you sing in the shower and in the car…If you sang in high school or college and haven’t found a group to sing with since then…if you came to one of our concerts and thought it looked like we were having fun…you belong here with us! Don’t worry about what you don’t know or haven’t done before. We truly don’t care if you can read music. If there’s a joyful noise in you just waiting to be made, we want to hear it!
Did you miss today’s event? IT’S NOT TOO LATE! Come join us on Tuesday, September 26, from 7:00-9:00 PM at River of Life Church in Fishers, for our 2nd guest event!
